Weekly update – little progress – still progress

Hello there!Dennis

Another weekly update, and still getting frustrated. Only a little bit of progress, still progress in the right direction.

Last week started VERY well.  I dropped to 214 on my scale which is very good. Unfortunately it did not stay there. I went back up to 216, then 217 – for no real reason? I kept a calorie deficit. I worked out. I drank plenty of water. My body just revolted.

Friday I awoke tired and frustrated so I skipped the morning workout figuring I would go later in the day. The day was busier than I thought so the workout didn’t happen.

Saturday I had my weigh in. I lost a whopping 1/2 a pound. OK, still a loss, just very frustrating when you [seem to] do everything right, and not get the results you expect. The numbers show that I lost 3.5 pounds of fat, and gained 3 pounds of lean muscle – thinking this is really retaining water. (The Med Team scale is about 1 – 1.5 pounds less than mine.)

Driving back from Med Team, I had planned on going straight to the gym. I talked myself out of that 3 or 4 times. Luckinly I talked myself back into it 6 times. I still went to the gym and had a great workout. The scale didn’t change Sunday morning, I still feel better for having kept that commitment to myself! – A successful week overall.  🙂

Need to keep looking at the big picture and not focus too much on this one week.

Sunday was Lyndsey’s birthday and a day off from the gym and I was going to allow myself a cheat day. Woohoo… cake and ice cream here we come!

Tammy cooked delicious (hi carb) meals and I kept to decent portions, and enjoyed the day. Overall, calorie wise, I did well. Only about 300 calories over my target which still keeps me in line for not gaining weight. The carb count was another thing all together. They went WAY over..  🙂  Back on track for Monday!

This morning I weighed in at the same weight (217) I have been weighing for the past 4 days. So, I have that going for me.

Today is off from work (holiday) and I slept in. Up at 8:30 then headed to the gym.

Had a great workout and right near the end, started to get a bloody nose.  Again. more frustrations.

I was able to keep it “at bay” and it did not bleed heavy, so I stayed and finished with 30 minutes on the treadmill, taking it slower than usual.

Home, shower, doing a little work for myself, and having a good day. Yup, another bloody nose.  This time it bled a bit more, but I was still able to get it stopped rather quickly. – turn on the humidifier and it is holding steady.

Looking forward to a better, more successful week!

So far (from Saturdays weigh in):

Weight: 215.5
Total Lost: 42.5
Pounds to Goal: 40.5 pounds

If I use my scale, I am at 217, 41 loss and 42 to go to goal weight.

Until next time,

Peace,
-Dennis

Sometimes we hit plateaus even when we do everything right. That’s normal but can be very upsetting.
I think you are doing great. I’m trying to lose at Weight Watchers but it is very slow going. Of course I’m a lot older than you. I do it for health reasons, trying to avoid taking medications like a lot of other older people.

      Hello Betty,

Thanks for stopping in and keeping up with my journey. Yes, you are right… It is most probably a plateau, which is another reason for cheating on Sunday. Hope to jump start the metabolism!

      See you soon!

HI DENNIS; LOVED SEEING TAMMY WISH YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN HERE ALSO.
IN REGARD TO YOUR DIET. IT’S NOT HOW MUCH YOU EAT BUT WHAT YOU EAT. MANY FOODS HAVE HIDDEN CALORIES OR GMO.
EAT LOTS OF VEGGIES, SOME FRUITS, WATCH THE CARBS MORE THAN ANYTHING. SOME CEREALS ARE VERY HIGH IN CARBS AND PUT ON WEIGHT BUT YOU ARE NOT FULL.
I AM 74 THIS YEAR AND STILL THE SAME SIZE I WAS 50 YRS AGO, BUT I HAVE ALWAYS WATCHED THE CARBS NOT CALORIES. GOOD FATS ARE IMPORTANT. MEAT FAT AND REAL BUTTER ARE GOOD FOR YOU.
WEIGH IS TRUE RIGHT FROM THE BED TO THE TOILET TO THE SCALE WITH YOUR BIRTHDAY SUIT ON. TAKE IT FROM A PRO, DON’T STARVE YOURSELF ALL DAY BECAUSE YOUR BODY WILL STORE UP WHAT YOU DO EAT. PICK ALL DAY ON GOOD THINGS AND EAT 2 FULL MEALS AND NOT AFTER 6;00. YOU WILL GO TO BED AT MIDNIGHT AND STILL BE DIGESTING YOUR MEAL. HOPE THIS HELPS. LOL

You might have frustrating days here and there, but don’t get discouraged. I myself for a LONG time, couldn’t lose any weight at all. And I do 4 cardio classes a week. I eat sensibly, but still nothing. I started working with a personal trainer 2 times a week, for an hour. Between the 3, I have lost 7 pounds so far. But I plateaued a VERY long time. When all else fails, CHANGE!!
Tom has about 40 fitness books, has been working out since a teenager. I use fitnesspal.com and bodybuilding.com alot myself. He has a book he’s going to let your borrow as well.

      Hey Penny,

You and Tom both look awesome. Wouldn’t call it a plateau as much as “arrived at destination”!

Always ready to read and learn more.

      Love Ya,
      -Dennis

Na, you didn’t arrive at your destination. Think of it as driving on a long trip, and you have to stop 1/2 way in the middle of your destination to go pee and get gas. You’re just making a pit stop!
