Working with WordPress Websites

Dennis BosseI was recently looking back on some of the things I have done in the past, and working with websites, especially WordPress Websites has been one of the things I enjoy.  Going through various certificates and such I have determined that I completed over 15 courses in web building / design / SEO and, yes WordPress.  I have created over a dozen WordPress websites and help to maintain even more.

One of the key items I am working on is this site.  I am doing yet another re-design.  This website gives me a platform to test some of the new things I have been hearing about and learning. With this in mind, I have changed the theme yet again. New look, new colors and making it mobile responsive.  Updated graphics (yes, working with Photoshop too) to round out the skillset.

Another big challenge for many is maintenance.  I am in the process of testing an automated system for keeping the core WordPress system, themes and plugins updated automatically.  This does not alleviate the need for testing, just makes things go much quicker once the testing is done.

Just goes to show you even though school may end, learning never stops. Here are a few of the courses I have completed:

  • XHTML and HTML Essential Training – Web, Coding, XHTML, HTML
  • Web Design Fundamentals – Web, Design
  • WordPress 3 Essential Training – WordPress
  • SEO – Search Engine Optimization Getting Started -Web, SEO, Search Engine Optimization
  • Social Media Marketing with Facebook and Twitter -Social Media, Facebook, Twitter
  • Self-Hosting a WordPress Site Web, -WordPress
  • Start with a Theme – Photography Portfolios in WordPress -WordPress, Photography
  • Online Marketing Fundamentals -Web, Marketing
  • Effective Email Marketing Strategies -Marketing, Email
  • Infographics – Planning and Wireframing -Web, Wireframe, Infographics
  • WordPress 3 – Creating and Editing Custom Themes -WordPress, Themes
  • Infographics – Area Bubbles -Web, Infographics
  • AcrobatX -Web, Forms
  • Creating an HTML Newsletter -Web, HTML, Newsletter
  • Foundations of UX – Content Strategy -Web, User Experience

Here are just a few of the websites I have worked on:

Each site has key characteristics that make them truly unique in their own right yet they all have a distinctive similarity – powered by WordPress!  I love the flexibility this platform gives you.

Next up is custom post types and using Types and Views Toolset by On the Go Systems.  Working to make a truly modular and dynamic website to capture the users attention.

If you see something you like, or a suggestion on making it better, please don’t hesitate to let me know. My journey and learning will never stop!  Stay tuned for more.
