Ready, Set, GO!

me and the girlsIt didn’t take long to get back into the swing of things.  It seems as I went from zero to 120 in less than a wink.  Life is busy, busy, busy; that’s a good thing.

It has been a while since I posted.  I will need to set a schedule and try to stick to it.  (sounds familiar on so many fronts.)  Going to try and make a long story short, ..  nah…

Work – back to work full time.  Started doing 1/2 days, but I would work a little more so I recorded it as such.  Well it appears that once you go over 80%, the disability folk take back ALL the pay for that period.  So I am now in the hole over 3,500 to the disability folks.  I seem to remember a few people telling me to take it easy getting back.  Don’t go back until I was ready to go back 100%.  Well I figured I would do the right thing and do as much as I could as soon as I could.  What’s the old saying, “No good deed goes unpunished”.  As far as working goes, it’s full steam ahead.  We have so many irons in the fire that it would make most people’s head spin.  Still looking to hire a few more people.  This will help eventually, just need to get over the hurdle.  I have been keeping to a more modest schedule for the most part.

Torrington Girl ScoutsHome – Having a great time with everything.

Dj’ing a bit here and there.  Next up will be 1000 acres in September.  I have been able to take a few more lessons and actually keep up with most of it.

Have taught a few scuba classes, but still haven’t made it into the “open water”.  I am having a few technical issues with my gear [fitting] so there is no cold water in the near future.  It will be warning up soon so there will be time to head out with the wet suit.

Denis is starting a class in the next few weeks, thinking about helping [harassing] him when he starts.  I can return the favor for all the help [harassing] he has given me.  🙂  Love ya buddy!

Kids DisneyTammy and I took the grand-kids to Florida for a week Memorial Day weekend.  We had a blast with them and doing the whole “Disney” thing.  Was a lot of walking and many long days,  both kids handled it all real well.  Tammy and I did our best to keep up.  🙂

The time we spent doing things has renewed my energy.  I am now feeling a bit “better” at pushing myself more and more.  Not really too much, butt am able to push until I am sore, and recover relatively quickly.  Thanks to my friends Motrin and Alleve.  Starting to eat better, work a little harder, just need to get a good schedule and a little more consistent with it all – think I mentioned this before..??

This past weekend was the “Relay for Life”.  As many of you already know, there was a special person who “relayed” for me last year.  Well it was really two people – Diane and Jessy.

As part of my hope and strength to beat the dreaded cancer, I vowed to walk with her next year.  The time flew by, as before I knew it, the time had come for us to walk together.  It was a joy and a great pleasure that I could fulfill my promise and walk with Jessy this year.  We were joined by Diane, Mike, Ed, Cathy & Jessica.  We were able to attend a great dinner for the survivors and their caregivers.  Really well done!

Relay for Life 2012

Later, we were joined by Lyndsey, Kaeleigh, Skylar & Millie.  We all stayed until the luminary ceremony which was another touching moment.  I remember the goosebumps and emotion that poured through me last year as Jessy posted the pictures and story of her walking for me and the beautiful luminary in my name.

Love you DadThis year was my turn to light one in memory of my father who passed from lung cancer.  I also lit one for Tammy in thanks for being there for me through it all.  She was not able to attend the ceremony, so I sent a picture to her…  and later had it lit in the driveway for when she came home.

I believe Cathy lit up the remaining parking lot with all the ones she purchased.  There were luminaries in memory of her mom and dad, Uncle Ronnie, myself and a few others.  Millie had a few as well –  We love you Carlty!

Last Friday was my four month scan.  Had a head / brain MRI and a whole body CT scan.  Will be following up with Dr. Hong next Friday for the results.  How can I say that I am not worried..?  I tell myself that all the time, but have a hard time believing myself.  Will see what news is forthcoming later this week.

Pretty quick story, and brings us to today.  Another great day.  Spent most of it cleaning the garage, mowing the lawn, working in the shed.  All the annoying things I could no do last year.

Isn’t it great!!

Love to all,
-Dennis

Good for yo Dennis! You have come a long way since this all started. I am proud to have a friend that put up such a hard fight and didn’t give in.
