The start of a new program

Today was my first session at Med Team Weight Loss https://medteamweightloss.com/ in Rocky Hill, CT. It is a new start for being monitored (and held accountable) for losing weight. I need to thank a good friend for “sponsoring” my way into this program.

The “physical” was pretty thorough and detailed. Along with doing an extensive health history – where I had many “yes’s”, they performed an EKG, obtained a copy of my latest blood work (last week) and took my blood pressure. I was very impressed with the level of detail they go through to get to know their clients. We discussed the various medicines I am on and how they can affect weight loss – essentially slowing it down.

Afterwards, Tom went through and customized my plan. It is very similar to what I have already been doing, except for very low carb. They are even having me eat 7 meals (combination snacks / meals) throughout the day. This is a bit more than I have been doing, so I am sure that I will not go hungry. One of the items stressed was vegetables – 2 good portions a day and also the need for sodium (moderated) as I will be drinking a lot of water.

Once our meeting was done it was time to go out and pick out my food. They have all kinds of goodies to choose from: Meals, snacks, shakes, you name it. I chose a good variety of items along with a multi vitamin supplement. Since I had stuff left from my previous program, they were very accepting and not pushy at all.

I made my next appointment for next Thursday after work. Tom asked me to stay away from the scale – but I could not promise that.

Here are my beginning stats:
Weight: 237.5
BMI: 36.1
Fat: 34.9%
Water: 48% – they want this over 50%

Goal = 175

Another goal
I have been thinking, many times, of doing the Manchester Road Race. This is an annual Thanksgiving event. I have thought about it many times, just never done it. I may not be able to “race” but I would really like to participate.

There is a gentleman in my cardiac rehab that has been doing it for many years. He will not be running this year, so I may try and hook up with him and walk / jog through it. I will need to see what the docs say about it.

One way or another I will be in it, just will need to determine the speed I get it done. 🙂 Any other takers?

Part 2
A couple people asked me a few questions and gave me an idea and I would like your feedback.

1. Do I have a “prize” picked out for when I reach my goal? – uh, no. Hadn’t thought of it. Wondering what people think of a nice prize, besides a new wardrobe? Needs to be low cost as being out of work / disability has really cut into the reserves.
2. How about others joining in – maybe donating money for pounds lost? – I thought this was a great idea. I will be walking again for the American Cancer Society I believe in May. If people are willing to “sponsor” me, I will donate all funds to the American Cancer society. Together we raised over $1,000 last year. I am sure we can beat that this year.

Let me know what you think by commenting below!

Peace and Love,
-Dennis

Part2-#1- the prize is a great looking you and will not cost more than you are spending to get to goal.

Part2#2- This year I am donating to BCAN (bladder cancer) but could cheer you on and/or nag. I really think this is a good idea and would be an additional incentive.

The weight loss program looks like a good one, meaning healthy eating with lots of small meals.
    Keep hanging in there.

    Hey Dennis,
You can do anything you put your mind to. It will be tough at first but get easier after a few weeks. Veggies are your friend, there are tons of great ways to cook & eat them. Keep the faith.
    Best,
    Andy
