A successful week – weekly check in – losing fat!

key to success - losing fatHello again,

I can finally say I had a good week and I feel good about it to boot. Seeing as though the focus, my focus, is on losing fat, this was a great week!

After a fun weekend last weekend, I was ready to keep it going. I stayed diligent on the eating and made it to the gym 3 days this week. I had hoped to go more – trying for 4 to 5 days a week – unfortunately the sinus / coughing issue crept up again.

With regards to working out, I am doing more and more with weights. I have been doing whole body workouts the past few weeks and realize I cannot do this more than twice a week.  Therefore I am splitting body parts up and will be hitting them once to twice a week. That’s the plan at least.

Monday was legs and back then elliptical for 30 minutes. Tuesday was cardio only; treadmill then elliptical each for 30 minutes. Tuesday night was a coughing fit and lack of sleep, no working out Wednesday.  Thursday back to the doctor for more antibiotics and cough syrup. (reminds me I need to go take one now, be right back.) Friday back on the weights and did chest & arms, with a little bit of shoulder work then 30 minutes on the eliptical.

I am really trying to do varied workouts to work each muscle group at least once a week and give them ~ 4 days rest. Keeping it simple and with lighter weights so I can focus on range of motion and form. One of the key benefits of weight lifting is the added metabolism boost that will help me to keep losing fat throughout the day.

With the suggestion of my nurses from cardiac rehab, I purchased a heart monitor. I did some research on various models and chose a Garmin Forerunner 110. I have been using for the past week and so far liking what it does. I will write more on this later.

If any of you have workout routines you would care to share please do. Send me an email or comment below.

Today, was my weigh in day with Med Team and the reason for my update.

Here are the numbers:

  • Fat loss – 3.5 pounds (lost one % of body fat this week!)
  • Total weight loss – 4 pounds
  • Weight = 224.5
  • Total loss to date = 34

This was a REAL good week for losing fat. On another note, I was unsuccessful with staying away from the scale as I still weighed myself every day. I will once again try to stay away for the week and wait until next Saturday to weigh in. 🙂

Until next time – Peace and love,

-Dennis

    Dennis,

Terrific and glad to hear you are doing well and trying so hard, as losing weight and exercising is a hard thing to do. By the sounds of it, you did an excellent job with the food last weekend which is hard to do up there in NH as we were there last year when I had just started Curves 6 weeks before going to NH; it was a difficult job to stick to my diet with all the food you get there.

Congratulations on your weight loss and continue the good work.

Congrats on your success. It seems once you get started it’s not too hard to keep going.

Dennis, You are doing great! This is a difficult time of the year for eating. I love sweets and can’t bring them into the house. I go to the gym about twice a week and my favorite workouts are the classes – zumba, kickboxing, cardio sculpt. I guess they remind me of line dancing, which I love.
