Goal setting – Positive Energy

positive energy - smarter goals for 2016 - Dennis BosseIf you have been following along, you know we have have covered:

Thank you for following along! if you are working along too, you are well on your way to making 2016 an awesome year!

Any time we do something we will have a mental image of the outcome. Yes, even before we start we will know [basically] how it will end up. When we assert positive energies and focus our attention on being able to accomplish the task, we will see the route towards completion, the path if you will. If we are looking at our task as impossible then we will see the obstacles, roadblocks.

The big picture

Totally understand there WILL be obstacles along our chosen path. That is a given. This is life. If we choose to focus on the roadblocks, then we will be consumed with them and our energies will become negative and self defeating. To be successful, we need to focus on the dreams, goals and possibilities.

If we focus on the outcome, the path, and the possibilities, we will create a positive energy. This will help drive us towards the end state. Completion. Success!

  • Focusing on obstacles – like stepping on the breaks.
  • Focusing on the goal and the path – like hitting the accelerator.

If we take a look at the big picture, the end state, aka “Nirvana” we may easily get overwhelmed. This will lead us on a negative path as we may feel we just cannot make it all the way. This is understood and can be expected. When we tackle too much we can easily talk ourselves out of just about anything.

Now take a little different approach. Use our energy to focus on something a little smaller, keep it in our sights and work towards it – we can now talk ourselves into accomplishing anything. The difference is where we choose to put our focus. Set smaller goals, or milestones, and reward ourselves along the way. Each milestone allows us time to celebrate, review and re-focus. Even take a little bit of a break now and then.

Taking a little time off (little like a day or two, not a month or two…) will help to keep our energies high and our spirits positive. Take this time as a reward. Celebrate accomplishments along the way. A meal or two of indulgence should be seen as a reward. Do not look at these as “cheat”days. Think of them as “reward” days. One way is positive, the other negative.

  • Negative – cannot, too big, insurmountable, impossible (hitting the breaks).
  • Positive – we can, easy, attainable, possible (hitting the accelerator).

The energy we put forward is the energy that will be returned. If I make myself focus on the positive energy I will keep my attitude positive and the success rate high.

Inspiring others

One of the biggest compliments I received this week..  Someone texted me with a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – they said when they read it, it reminded them of me. You cannot believe how great this made me feel.

This has inspired me to keep going further and doing even more. A little comment, not a lot of time out of someones day. It made a big difference in my life. There is no way I would ever compare myself to such a great person..  The thought that I have made a difference is a person’s life is truly amazing and rewarding. I only hope to keep living up to this expectation. Yes, one of my goals – Truly inspire others to greatness!

if you can't fly, then run..."

If you can’t fly, then run,
if you can’t run, then walk,
if you can’t walk, then crawl,
but whatever you do,
you have to keep moving forward.

-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Assignment

Here is a little assignment for you, OK for us. Over the next few weeks, take the time, 5 minutes, to send a note, text or call to someone and give them a few words of praise and thanks. Doesn’t need to be much, just take a little time out of your week to send a gift of love and praise to another person in your life. Look at a person or situation and focus on the positive, then take a moment to reflect that towards another person. You will be glad you did!

Try doing a couple of people a week, maybe even one a day. Comment below and let me know how it worked out for you? How did it make you feel? How do you think it affected them? The greatest gift you can give another is time.

If you are reading this, then let me take a moment to say “Thank you” for taking a little time out of your life to share in my journey. I really appreciate you!

Peace and Love,Time to review
-Dennis

Great article Dennis. Thank you for so many wonderful suggestions to make changes, evolve and achieve a better frame of mind. You are indeed an inspiration. I did something similar to your suggestion of contacting someone personally – not quite as interactive because I did not reach out and contact them……but none the less this is what I did. I have a daily gratitude jar….3rd year I’ve done this. Each day I write a few words of something I am grateful for, to which this year, I added the name of a person I am grateful for each day. I wonder if I know 365 people!! ❤️❤️
