Lessons from a folk tale – living life

Happy New Year!

That statement takes on a lot of meanings.

Many people are looking forward with great expectation, more of the same and even better!! Others are looking forward with the hopes of a different future. Last year was terrible, I hope 2018 brings a much different set of circumstances…

Here is a folk tale:

A traveler came upon an old farmer hoeing in his field beside the road. Eager to rest his feet, the wanderer hailed the countryman, who seemed happy enough to straighten his back and talk for a moment.
“What sort of people live in the next town?” asked the stranger.

“What were the people like where you’ve come from?” replied the farmer, answering the question with another question.

“They were a bad lot. Troublemakers all, and lazy too. The most selfish people in the world, and not a one of them to be trusted. I’m happy to be leaving the scoundrels.”

“Is that so?” replied the old farmer. “Well, I’m afraid that you’ll find the same sort in the next town.

Disappointed, the traveler trudged on his way, and the farmer returned to his work.

Some time later another stranger, coming from the same direction, hailed the farmer, and they stopped to talk. “What sort of people live in the next town?” he asked.

“What were the people like where you’ve come from?” replied the farmer once again.

“They were the best people in the world. Hard working, honest, and friendly. I’m sorry to be leaving them.”

“Fear not,” said the farmer. “You’ll find the same sort in the next town.”

What is the lesson here?

In reality, well my reality, 2017 was life!

My end of year post on Facebook was one of realism…  I had the year I set out and worked for. Was it perfect – no. Was it bad – no. It .. was.

My thoughts and reactions to what happened determined the year I had.

I planned well – set goals – worked hard – fluffed off – you name it! 🙂Dennis - IRONMAN Lake Placid - Finish

Do I want a more successful 2018 – yes!

What do I need to do to get there? – Do more of the things that worked well last year and less of the things that didn’t.

Holy crap, what a concept..

On to 2018

I have, well “we” have (Tammy and I) a lot of challenges ahead. Along with these challenges bring a lot of opportunity.

We will be working diligently on a few key areas of our lives:

  1. Health
  2. Simple(r) living
  3. Living the life we love

Just like everyone else. We need to keep on keeping on.

Health

We are both heading into the gym and working on a better form of eating / living. Woohoo…  Looking forward to a healthier “us” this year.!!

Simple Living

Budgeting, doing more with less, living a simpler life. Getting rid of stuff we don’t need and using what we do have. Cleaning out clutter. We have so much [crap] we don’t use..  will be selling, giving and donating. Come and visit, you just might get something.

Living the life we love

We both have the entrepreneurial spirit – and along those lines will focus on helping people while doing the things we love.

Each one of these businesses allow us the opportunity to help people.

Tammy’s travel business – TMB Let’s Travel – helping people to go on vacation and travel the world! How great is that!!

Steps & Sounds – enhancing people’s lives through music and dance. – expanding and taking on more opportunities and events!

My Vanity Website – web and marketing for business – from the solopreneur much larger companies.

Looking forward to a GREAT 2018..

Peace, Love & Success!
