Closing out 2016

It is now December and 2016 is almost gone. Time to review what went well this year and look for opportunities to improve. Continuous improvement is the way to progress forward…

What went well?REV 3 triathlon - the beast of the North East

I accomplished quite a bit this past year. The biggest being 2 half iron distance triathlons and my first full marathon. Yup, 26 point friggin’ two miles. That is just a highlight of the racing from the year.

More importantly was the time spent with family and friends. I am truly blessed with an abundance of both.

WAY too many things to list here. A lot more to come in 2017 as well. Plenty of trips (vacations already planned) and other fun things on the horizon. The calendar is filling up nicely.

What needs improvement?

Time management and consistency. Most of the items I accomplished were done in spite of my efforts. I was fortunate in having a flexible schedule and being able to get things done, one way or another.

Looking forward I will need to plan more, be more consistent, and look to manage my time better.

I accomplished the goals I kept in site. The ones that I had written down and committed to. The ones I did not make were just the opposite. Took a back seat, didn’t write them down, did not have a defined plan on getting them completed.

Pretty self evident what needs to be done..

Many times we say “I didn’t have time..” – I still feel this is a cop out, to an extent. We each have 24 hours a day. What we prioritize and make room for gets the attention. What we do not prioritize – well, we just didn’t have time.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Going forward

As I look to the new year, there is still a lot to be accomplished. I have already started writing down the framework of things I will accomplish. The next steps are getting a little more organized and keeping the important goals up front and prioritized.

There is still much to be written .. ย race reports, trip information, business items. All good. – coming soon to a blog near you. I will commit to writing at least once a week. I will be trying to write a bit more. Will be in touch!

Peace and Love,
-Dennis

Committing to writing once a week is a HUGE commitment. I tried that during 2016 spread over 3-5 blogs. Overall, I did pretty well, until September… after that, anything that had not already been scheduled did not get completed. The writing demand was unsustainable for me.

What I did learn was that there are certain types of posts I loved doing (inspirational image quotes and holiday cards). I also learned that if I scheduled them in my calendar and sent myself weekly reminders, I was much more likely to complete the task and form good habits which could allow me to get ahead of schedule.

The longer articles (one-two on each blog, each month) was simply too many articles to write and provide the quality content that I wanted to present while working the business at the same time.

I was disappointed that I did not meet my writing goals all year but at the same time, I did develop some new boundaries, learn some additional strategies and built some great habits for 2017.

I look forward to reading your posts.

      Thanks Kerry,

Yes, commitments are tough. Funny, if I schedule something with a friend it is easy to keep the commitment. When I plan something for myself it is very easy to let it take a back seat…

      Priorities.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the great information as always.
